Phuket – On November 3, 2024, at 5:30 p.m., at the lawn opposite the Charter Bank intersection, Mr. Adul Chuthong, Phuket Vice Governor, along with Mrs. Ratchadaporn O-in, Director of Tourism and Sports Phuket Office, Mr. Thanet Tantipiriyakit, Phuket Tourist Association President, and Mr. Supachok Laongphet, Deputy Mayor of Phuket City, held a press conference for the Phuket Old Town Tourism Promotion Project “Wen Mueang Gao, Lao Phuket,” which will take place from November 27 to December 1, 2024, at the 72nd Anniversary Queen Sirikit Park (Dragon Park).
Phuket Province has set a vision under its development plan to become a “Global Marine Tourism Hub,” leveraging local lifestyles and regional strengths to drive tourism activities. The Phuket Old Town tourist community serves as a key attraction, showcasing the unique blend of Sino-Portuguese art and architecture, while integrating the local way of life and identity, such as cuisine and traditional clothing. This is accompanied by the development of tourism activities and marketing promotions through events, under the concept of “Phuket Soft Power: Buildings, Food, Fashion, and Emotion.
The Phuket Old Town Tourism Promotion Event is one of six activities held across the Andaman provinces, aiming to present local heritage and community assets from each province to tourists.
Phuket has chosen to present under the concept “Phuket Old Town: Stories of Phuket.” At the event, tourists will experience a variety of activities, including:
- Workshops with Phuket’s community tourism networks.
- Art exhibitions by Thailand Biennale artists from the Phuket Art Association.
- A lighting installation show on the second floor of the Clock Tower at Dragon Square, with a daily light and sound art performance, shown five times a day starting at 7:00 p.m.
- Cultural performances by local youth and artists, along with a diverse selection of food trucks.
- Beautiful check-in photo spots that reflect Phuket’s cultural heritage.
6. Guided tours through Phuket Old Town’s connected routes, with three different routes available throughout the day.
- Spiritual Route: A tour visiting five famous Chinese shrines in Phuket, following the local traditions. Discover the significance and history of Hainan Shrine, Pud Jor Shrine, Jui Tui Shrine, Saeng Tham Shrine, and Kiew Tien Keng Shrine.
- Discover Phuket Museum Route: A historical tour of Phuket, including visits to Bang Neaw Community Museum, Phuket Thaihua Museum, Peranakan Museum (Phuket Museum), and Chinpracha House.
- Phuket Old Town, Every Street Tells a Story Route: A cultural tour exploring the local way of life along Thalang Road, Phang Nga Road, Yaowarat Road, and Soi Romanee, with a cooking workshop on traditional Phuket dishes led by local chefs.
