Phuket – On August 10, 2025, the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), in collaboration with Phuket Province, held a press conference to announce the upcoming “Muay Thai Phuket Festival 2025.”
The event was presided over by Ms. Prodpran Samanmit, SAT Deputy Governor for Professional Sports and Boxing, along with Mr. Sophon Suwannarat, Phuket Governor; Mr. Tanukiat Chanchum; Mr. Paitoon Chutimakornkul, Member of the Subcommittee on Sports Industry Development; Mr. Thammawat Wongcharoenyot, President of Phuket Sports Association; Mr. Thanawut Petschara, Director of SAT Phuket Office; Mr. Natthaphon Antrasen, Director of the Office of the Boxing Board of Thailand; Mr. Chalam Attatham, Deputy Chief Executive of Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization; Dr. Wittaya Ketchoo, Director of Phuket Vocational College; and other executives. The press conference took place at the event space opposite the Peranakan Museum (former Chartered Bank Building).

The festival is a collaboration between the Sports Authority of Thailand (through the Boxing Board of Thailand), the Subcommittee on Sports Industry Development (Soft Power), and Phuket Province. It will be held from August 15–17, 2025, at Robinson Lifestyle Chalong, with the aim of driving the government’s Soft Power policy, promoting Muay Thai as part of the Creative Economy, and covering multiple aspects such as sports promotion, career creation, increasing the Muay Thai practitioner base, encouraging Muay Thai for fitness, and Muay Thai tourism.

Phuket is considered a high-potential location, with numerous certified Muay Thai gyms that are highly popular among foreign visitors, many of whom come for long-term training stays. The “Muay Thai Phuket Festival 2025” reinforces Phuket’s role as Thailand’s “Muay Thai Hub.”
Festival highlights include 15 Muay Thai bouts, booths by local gyms, Muay Thai workshops for foreign tourists with famous fighters such as Kong Thoranee Sor. Sommai and Superlek Kiatmoo 9 as instructors, plus entertainment activities throughout the three days.

Mr. Sophon Suwannarat, Phuket Governor, stated that the province has over 300 Muay Thai gyms, and in 2024 alone, more than 80,000 tourists came to Phuket to learn Muay Thai. Therefore, infrastructure development and safety measures are vital to support the growing Muay Thai industry in line with the government’s Soft Power policy. He added,
“Phuket is determined to establish this Muay Thai festival as an annual event to enhance the province’s image as a global Muay Thai center. We hope it will be a key activity that generates income for local residents and businesses.”
A highlight of the press conference was the debut of the “Chartered Bear” mascot dressed in Muay Thai attire to promote the event, as well as a mass Wai Khru Muay Thai ceremony led by “Nuenglanlek Jitmuangnon,” winner of the 2023 Outstanding Male Wai Khru Award, joined by over 300 students from Phuket Vocational College.
