
Phuket, September 11, 2025 – The Phuket Provincial Cultural Office has officially announced the upcoming “Phuket Creative City: Kebaya Festival 2025”, a grand cultural event honoring the Kebaya, the traditional women’s attire that reflects the unique Baba–Peranakan identity. The Kebaya was recently inscribed by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The festival will be held on September 20–21, 2025, starting from 4:00 PM onwards at the 72nd Anniversary Queen Sirikit Park (Dragon Park) in Phuket Old Town.




The press conference was chaired by Mrs. Puangpaka Chaowai, Phuket Provincial Cultural Chief, along with distinguished guests including Mr. Pibulsak Kittithornkul, Deputy Mayor of Phuket City Municipality; Mr. Somprasong Iamsakul, Advisor to the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization; Mrs. Ratchadaporn O-in, Director of the Phuket Office of Tourism and Sports; Ms. Siriwan Siharaj, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket Office; Mr. Somsak Sophanon, President of the Phuket Cultural Council; Mr. Don Limnanpisit, President of the Phuket Old Town Community; and Dr. Kosol Taenguthai, President of the Peranakan Association of Thailand.




The “Kebaya Festival 2025” will feature a vibrant showcase of traditions, artistry, and creativity. Highlights include the Kebaya Festival Parade, presenting exquisite Kebaya costumes in both traditional and contemporary styles, accompanied by folk performances and cultural showcases. Visitors can also enjoy authentic Phuket local cuisine and shop for ‘Creative Cultural Products of Thailand (CPOT)’ that embody community wisdom and innovation.
Another major highlight is the “My Home, My Heritage” Exhibition, telling the story of Baba–Peranakan life through displays of architecture, clothing, jewelry, antique household items, and multimedia presentations. The “Walk Rally: Journey through Time” will guide participants through Phuket’s history, exploring its art, food, beliefs, and cross-cultural connections.


Performing arts will also play a key role, featuring stage plays and traditional “Tiam Chu” performances that narrate the lives and emotional ties of Phuket’s Baba community. There will also be live demonstrations of Peranakan handicrafts, such as intricate beaded shoe embroidery, a time-honored craft passed down through generations. Throughout the event, visitors can enjoy a variety of cultural shows and music performances, culminating in concerts by renowned Thai artists, including ‘Gam Wichayanee’ and ‘Dome Jaruwat’, bringing entertainment and unforgettable experiences.
The Kebaya Festival 2025 reflects the pride of Phuket’s people in their Baba–Peranakan heritage while also serving as a platform for collaboration between government agencies, the private sector, local communities, and the tourism industry to elevate cultural values onto the global stage.
