Phuket – December 22, 2025 Vachira Phuket Hospital held a press conference to announce its successful treatment of patients using Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), a non-surgical aortic valve replacement procedure. This achievement marks another significant milestone in advancing specialized medical care capabilities in Phuket.

Dr. Achan Jesdphattananon, Specialist in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology (member of the operating medical team), presented detailed information on the TAVI procedure. This innovative treatment offers a new option for elderly patients suffering from severe aortic valve stenosis who are at high risk for conventional open-heart surgery. The procedure involves inserting a small catheter through the femoral artery in the groin to deliver and implant a foldable artificial valve to replace the deteriorated native valve.

The TAVI procedure typically takes approximately 1–2 hours. Patients experience faster recovery times, fewer complications, and are able to return to their normal daily lives within a short period. This advancement represents new hope for heart disease patients in Phuket and neighboring regions.

Attending the press conference were Dr. Weerasak Lorthongkham, Director of Vachira Phuket Hospital; Dr. Wirun Napa-amphon, Senior Specialist in Thoracic Surgery (member of the operating medical team); and Mr. Rewat Areerob, President of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization, who provided major budgetary support for medical equipment required for TAVI technology. Members of the media were also present at the Rajapruek Conference Room, Ban Khun Phum Building, 6th Floor, Vachira Phuket Hospital.
