PHUKET, Thailand, January 30, 2026 — Phuket Province has launched the ‘Phuket Pineapple Festival 2026’, promoting its signature “Ang Lai” pineapple, a registered Geographical Indication (GI) product, as a symbol of prosperity and cultural identity rooted in the island’s Thai-Chinese heritage.

The announcement was made at a press conference for “Ang Lai Popee Peng An 2026”, presided over by Mr. Suwit Phansa- ngiam, Deputy Governor of Phuket, and attended by representatives from provincial agencies, the business sector, and community networks. The festival marks its 11th consecutive year.

Held during the third lunar month, the festival coincides with traditional New Year celebrations of Phuket’s Thai-Chinese community, a period characterized by family reunions, ancestral remembrance, and religious offerings. Pineapple, locally known in Hokkien Chinese as “Ang Lai”—meaning “good fortune is coming”—is considered an essential auspicious fruit, particularly during Chinese New Year, which falls on February 22–24, 2026.

Phuket pineapple is renowned for its distinctive flavor and has been officially recognized as a GI product, reinforcing its agricultural and cultural value. Local authorities emphasized efforts to integrate cultural heritage with agricultural development to enhance value from Phuket’s limited cultivation areas.

As part of the initiative, Rurak Samakkhi Co., Ltd. (Social Enterprise), in collaboration with the Phuket Pineapple Community Enterprise, is offering a limited edition of 200 gift boxes, each containing two premium pineapples. Each box includes a 69-baht donation to support the purchase of medical equipment for Thalang Hospital, with free nationwide delivery.

Officials noted that Phuket pineapples reach peak quality in March and expressed appreciation to all sectors for their continued collaboration in sustaining the festival’s success and strengthening Phuket’s creative and cultural economy.
