Phuket – January 15, 2567, at 17:30 hrs., at the White House marquee, Phuket Boat Lagoon, Phuket, Mr. Sopon Suwannarat, the Governor of Phuket, presided over the ceremony of MOU signing, on safety in the marine tourism industry. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Adul Chutong, Phuket Deputy Governor; Mr. Norasak Suksomboon, Phuket Deputy Governor; Mr. Anupap Wetchawanitsanong, Vice President of Phuket Provincial Administration Organization; Mr. Shaun Stenning, Founder of 5 Star Marine Company Limited; Mr. Natchapong Pranit, Director of Phuket Marine Office; Marine Police; Local government organizations; and relevant government and private sector representatives.
The signing of the MOU in Marine Tourism Industry Safety, is to enhance collaboration in elevating the safety standards sustainably within the maritime tourism industry of Phuket.
The aforementioned understanding is documented to address various critical issues and implement measures to ensure the well-being of both employees and passengers.
The key issues covered in the MOU include drug testing: all employees of the maritime industry company are instructed to undergo drug testing before starting work on the first day, and the results must be negative, as this is essential for commencing work. Random drug testing for regular ship personnel (captains, ship mechanics, caretakers, guides) will be conducted every 15 days. Life jackets: Every vessel must have an adequate and suitable number of life jackets for passengers and all ship personnel. Training: Crew members, captains, guides, and ship mechanics must attend regular basic first aid training courses. Ship mechanics (crew members) must undergo safety training and receive a certification of competence in boat operation and related components. The design and implementation will be carried out by relevant authorities.
