Phuket – On July 23, 2024 DEPA organized the Coding Bootcamp & Roadshow and Coding War in the upper southern region under the “Coding for Better Life: Building the Foundation for Thailand’s Future” project. Following the excellent response from activities in the central northeastern, central, lower northeastern, lower northern, and upper northern regions, DEPA is intensifying coding skills training for students and teachers, raising public awareness about coding skills, updating technology trends, AI innovations, and career advancements in coding. The event also provides a platform for Thai children to compete in coding skills to qualify for the final round of the Coding War in Bangkok from September 13 to 15. This project aims to enhance coding and technology skills, preparing the digital workforce to keep up with technological changes, meet industrial demands, and sustainably address the shortage of digital workforce in the country.
Mr. Chatchai Khunpitilak, Deputy Director-General of the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA), presided over the opening of the Coding Bootcamp & Roadshow and Coding War in the upper southern region. This event is part of the “Coding for Better Life: Building the Foundation for Thailand’s Future” project. The event was honored by the presence of Colonel Adul Chuthong, Deputy Governor of Phuket Province, as well as Dr. Jakkhanit Khananurak, Director of Digital Workforce Development Promotion, and Mr. Pracha Aswathira, Regional Director for the Southern Region and Acting Branch Manager for Upper Southern DEPA. Executives from government agencies, the private sector, educational institutions, teachers, students, parents, and interested members of the public also participated in the activities.
Colonel Adul Chuthong said that Phuket is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world, attracting many tourists to experience its beautiful atmosphere. The province promotes technology, economy, society, and is a smart city. Therefore, the use of technology is very close to home and essential for development in keeping with the changing times. On behalf of Phuket, I would like to thank DEPA for choosing to hold the event in Phuket and for emphasizing the development of people and promoting digital knowledge and skills for teachers, students, and the public in the province, as well as in the upper southern region. This effort provides valuable technological knowledge, fostering advancements in agriculture, daily life, and future technologies.
Mr. Chatchai said that DEPA regularly collaborates with Phuket on various activities, such as the Thailand Smart City project. He thanked the province for consistently welcoming DEPA in all its initiatives. DEPA remains committed to developing coding and digital technology knowledge and skills, especially among the youth, who are the future of the country. The “Coding for Better Life: Building Thailand’s Future Foundation” project by DEPA recognizes the importance of comprehensive and sustainable development. This starts with teachers who impart knowledge to students, and students who play a crucial role in the country’s development through four key areas:
- **Infrastructure**: Upgrading coding classrooms in 1,500 schools nationwide by providing modern equipment for teachers and students to facilitate quick access to learning resources.
- **Incubation**: Creating coding curricula and enhancing teaching skills for 3,000 teachers to become Coding Coaches, who will teach 300,000 students per year.
- **Accelerator**: Enhancing coding skills for technological and digital innovation development for teachers and students through Coding Bootcamp and Coding War activities.
- **Awareness**: Raising awareness about coding and its practical applications among parents and the general public through Coding Roadshows and the development of coding curricula disseminated via the Distance Learning Television (Coding DLTV) system.
Mr. Chatchai continued, stating that the Coding Bootcamp & Roadshow (July 23-24) and Coding War (July 23-25) activities in the Upper Southern region, held in Phuket, mark the 6th area covered after the Central Northeastern region in Khon Kaen, the Central region in Bangkok, the Lower Northeastern region in Ubon Ratchathani, the Lower Northern region in Phitsanulok, and the Upper Northern region in Chiang Mai. These activities have drawn more than 9,600 attendees throughout their duration. The Coding Bootcamp is organized for teachers and students from schools in the Upper Southern region participating in the project, with a total of 400 participants from 100 teams. They engage in intensive coding training, both theoretical and practical, from the nation’s leading digital experts on various topics. Ten outstanding projects will be selected to join the top 100 teams competing in the Coding War Final Round at MCC Hall, The Mall Lifestore Bangkapi, from September 13-15. The top projects will compete for prizes totaling over 1 million baht and earn the right to participate in the international coding competition at the Seoul International Invention Fair 2024 (SIIF 2024) in South Korea.
Meanwhile, the Coding Roadshow is designed for parents and the general public interested in the event. It features exhibitions and activities to raise awareness about coding, digital technology, and innovation, with knowledge sharing, trend updates, and career development in coding through seminars and special lectures over two days. The Coding War activity allows teachers and students from interested schools who have submitted their applications to present their projects and compete to be among the top 100 teams for the Final Round.
The next Coding Bootcamp & Roadshow will be held at the depa Digital One Stop Service Building, the Digital Startup Knowledge Exchange Center, and the Arize Hotel Sriracha from August 15-16. The Coding War will be held at the Digital Startup Knowledge Exchange Center from August 15-17.
