Phuket – On September 5, 2024, at the Mookanta Conference Room, Phuket Provincial Hall, Mr. Sophon Suwanrat, Phuket Governor, chaired a meeting to exchange views on the management of an Early Warning System (EWS) and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Thailand. The meeting was attended by officials from the Japanese Ministry of the Environment, a study team representing the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, and relevant agencies.
During the UNFCCC COP 27 conference, the Japanese government announced its support for “Assistance from the Japanese government to avoid, minimize, and manage losses and damages from disasters” and the “Initiative to promote the management of an Early Warning System (EWS) under Public-Private Partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region.”
As a result, the Japanese government, through the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, has defined a consulting role in managing the Early Warning System (EWS) under Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) since June 2023. To align with this initiative, the Japanese Ministry of the Environment conducted surveys in several countries last year and believes Thailand has high potential to effectively promote and implement the EWS and AI systems.
The Ministry of the Environment of Japan has appointed **Pacific Consultants, Co. Ltd.** to study and promote the EWS management project for the fiscal year 2024. Additionally, they introduced **Spectee Pro**, a program that uses AI to process and produce accurate analysis results. This system can calculate and provide early warnings by collecting real-time data from social media and filtering out misinformation to deliver accurate information directly to relevant agencies quickly and efficiently.
