Krabi – October 22, 2023 – General Patcharawat Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, presided over the opening ceremony of the “Tourism Season for Andaman Marine National Park ” event. The ceremony was also joined by Mr. Noppadol Phonsean, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, along with Mr. Chatuporn Burusphat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and Mr. Atthapol Charoenchansa, Director-General of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources Acting Director-General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation. Also in attendance were Mr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director-General of the Pollution Control Department, and Mr. Somchai Hanphakdipatima, Deputy Provincial Governor of Krabi, as well as various officials from the ministry, including heads of government departments, tourism operators, hoteliers, local leaders, students, scholars, and the general public. The event was held at Nopparat Thara Beach – Phi Phi Islands, Krabi Province.

Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) also played the important role in organizing an exhibition on Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Mobile Operations, which will be used for surveying, tracking, and assessing the number of marine mammals, as well as the dugongs survey in Trang and Krabi provinces. This training program aims to provide basic assistance for the conservation of endangered marine animals within the Andaman Sea region, including seagrass ecosystems and rare marine animal conservation activities.

General Patcharawat also honored the handover of equipment for marine animal conservation to the coastal community network as part of this initiative. This effort is aimed at promoting tourism in the Andaman National Park area in line with the government’s urgent policy to stimulate tourism revenue. Tourism is considered the primary driver for short-term economic growth and job creation for the people.
