The ceremony was graced by Mr. Suwit Pansangiam, Deputy Governor of Phuket, who presided over the event. Other distinguished attendees included Mr. Rewat Areerob, President of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization; Ms. Anchalee Vanich Thephabutra, Honorary Advisor and Founder of the Peranakan Association of Thailand; Dr. Kosol Tang-utai, President of the Peranakan Association; Professor Gang Hoan Jeong, Ph.D., President of Asia IFEA; Mr. Boonperm Intanapasat, President of TIEFA and CEO of RunRIO Thailand. They all served as official witnesses and received the Guinness World Records certificate.

One of the event’s major highlights was the arrangement of 846 bowls of Hokkien Mee into the shape of the word “PHUKET”: P – 144 bowls, H – 162 bowls, U – 162 bowls, K – 144 bowls, E – 126 bowls, T – 108 bowls. A team of food lab specialists and hygiene inspectors strictly assessed the cleanliness and quality of the food before the Guinness World Records verification process. Then, 800 participants carried bowls of Hokkien Mee to the designated formation area at Saphan Hin.

At 5:00 PM, the event featured an “International Peranakan Performance Show” , followed by the record-setting moment: a 20-minute synchronized cooking of Hokkien Mee, with the final product weighed according to the standard (100 grams per bowl). Drone footage captured the occasion from above.

Guinness World Records officially certified the record with 508 bowls, marking this as a global achievement. Following the record announcement, all participants shared a communal meal of Hokkien Mee and proceeded to the grand stage for a spectacular orchestral performance as part of the Phuket Peranakan Festival 2025.

This cultural celebration not only elevated Phuket’s global reputation but also beautifully showcased the island’s unique local identity. The event exemplified Thailand’s ability to transform culinary heritage into Soft Power for the international stage.

As a gesture of generosity and sustainability, the Hokkien Mee prepared during the event was donated to the Sustainable Tourism Development Foundation, which distributed it to the Phuket Special Education Center, providing meals to 300 children. This thoughtful action reflected the festival’s commitment to community-focused and responsible event organization, ensuring no food was wasted.
