Phuket – On June 28, 2025, at the Chartered Bank Intersection on Thalang Road, Mr. Sophon Suwannarat, Governor of Phuket, led a delegation of government officials, public and private sector representatives, and citizens from across the country in the official opening of “Phuket City Pride 2025.” The event featured a parade demonstrating support for gender diversity and aimed to elevate Phuket as a “City of Equality” on the global stage. This year’s event was presided over by Mr. Supachok La-ongphet, Mayor of Phuket City Municipality, who welcomed participants and affirmed the local government’s commitment to supporting LGBTQIA+ rights and creating a safe space for all members of society.

Mr. Teerasak Pholngam, Chairman of Andaman Charoen Co., Ltd., the event’s main private sector sponsor, also joined the parade alongside the public, openly showing his support for equality. His participation reflected the strong collaboration among government, private sector, and the public in driving Phuket forward as a city that respects human dignity, diversity, and peaceful coexistence.

“Phuket City Pride 2025” was held under the theme “Wave of Generations,” highlighting the strength of intergenerational and diverse identities, particularly the LGBTQIAN+ community, which has long been a vital part of Thai society. A key highlight was the grand Rainbow Flag Parade that flowed through the historic streets of Phuket Old Town, captivating attendees and tourists alike. The event featured more than 4,000 participants, including artists, celebrities, and activists from across the nation.

This year also saw the debut of “Pride Bunny,” the official mascot of the event, symbolizing the heart of gender identity diversity. The character draws inspiration from ancient Chinese legends and literature, where rabbits are believed to possess ambiguous gender traits when males and females coexist. As such, the rabbit has become a symbol of freedom from rigid gender norms—a central theme of this year’s Pride celebration.

Phuket has reaffirmed its commitment to being a “City of Equality and Freedom,” striving to become a ‘Safe Space’ for all people, regardless of gender, status, or identity. The province remains dedicated to promoting inclusive tourism that leaves no one behind, on a path to global recognition.
