Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in collaboration with Phuket Province, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), and CPAC Green Solution under SCG Group (SCG), organized ‘The One for Nature – Travel More, Love More’ project for the second time to promote responsible tourism in Thailand under the ‘Amazing Thailand’ brand. This initiative aims to invite international travelers who care about nature and the environment to experience sustainable tourism in Thailand.
Mr. Nithee Seeprae, TAT’s Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, revealed that the main objective of the “The One for Nature – Travel More, Love More” project is to drive the Thai tourism industry towards sustainability. It calls on high-quality international travelers to explore Thailand in a responsible and caring manner, ensuring that tourism becomes an integral part of preserving and conserving the environment. The goal is to promote Thailand as a sustainable and high-quality leisure destination.
From August to September 2023, TAT conducted an online promotion of the project through various platforms, reaching a significant audience of approximately 10,369,360 people within one month. They also organized on-ground activities to create awareness and encourage recycling efforts at popular tourist destinations in Thailand, such as Bali Hai Cape in Chonburi, Wua Lai Walking Street and Tha Phae Gate in Chiang Mai, and Laad Yai Weekend Market in Phuket. These activities received a positive response from international tourists.
One of the highlights of this project was the installation of artificial coral reefs made from recycled materials, with the support of government agencies, including the DMCR, and private sector companies like SCG Cement Thai Group. These artificial coral reefs were designed with a unique Thai elephant motif using 3D printing and environmentally-friendly cement certified as safe for marine life, providing shelter and breeding grounds for marine species according to natural ecological systems. Additionally, hotels like The Racha and the Racha Master Diver group participated in the installation of these artificial coral reefs in the waters of Racha Yai Island in Phuket.
Mr. Sophon Suwannarat, Phuket Governor, emphasized that TAT’s proactive approach through ‘The One for Nature – Travel More, Love More’ project is a crucial step in helping the Thai tourism industry recover and grow sustainably. By promoting responsible tourism, Thailand can leverage its diverse and unique tourism resources effectively. It is essential to instill a sense of responsibility for preserving culture, lifestyle, and nature appropriately in all regions. This effort will have a positive impact on the overall economic recovery of the country, not just in Phuket.
Phuket is a popular international tourist destination known for its beautiful and abundant natural attractions, rich local cuisine and unique cultural festivals. In the last quarter of the year, it becomes a significant season for tourism, which is of great economic importance. The province of Phuket has been working on various initiatives to promote sustainable tourism, including public transportation through Smart Buses and the use of electric vehicles (EVs) to transport tourists from the airport to various tourist attractions. These efforts reflect the potential for effective area management and readiness to accommodate high-quality tourists. ‘The One for Nature – Travel More, Love More’ project by TAT in this edition will play a crucial role in promoting Phuket as an environmentally-conscious tourist destination and elevating it to a globally recognized sustainable tourism destination in the future.
