Phuket, September 30, 2025 – To mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and Mexico, Ms. Nattkanya Saengpho, Honorary Consul of Mexico in Phuket, hosted a gala dinner at Silk Restaurant, Andara Resort & Villas. The celebration highlighted the enduring friendship and growing cooperation between the two nations.

The event was graced by H.E. Mrs. Ilse Lilian Ferrer Silva, Ambassador of Mexico to Thailand, who reaffirmed Mexico’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Thailand. Mr. Samawit Supanpai, Deputy Governor of Phuket, also delivered remarks underscoring Thailand’s role in strengthening this long-standing relationship.

Distinguished guests in attendance included Consuls General and Honorary Consuls from several countries, among them the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, Estonia, Germany, Spain, Belgium, the Republic of Korea, and Brazil. Also present were Mr. Kongsak Koopongsakorn, President of the Phuket Chamber of Commerce, private sector representatives, media, and other esteemed attendees, creating an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie.

The evening welcomed notable figures in academia and conservation, including Mr. Sirichai Arunraktichai, an independent documentary photographer and marine conservation expert, and Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director-General of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR). Their presence emphasized opportunities for collaboration between Thailand and Mexico in environmental and natural resource conservation.

Speaking on behalf of Thailand, Deputy Governor Samawit noted: “Over the past 50 years, Thailand–Mexico relations have stood as a symbol of friendship and cooperation, yielding mutual benefits in the areas of economy, trade, education, culture, and tourism. We are confident this partnership will continue to grow sustainably.”

Ambassador Ferrer Silva added: “Mexico is ready to expand cooperation with Thailand across all dimensions, and we believe that the friendship between our two countries will grow even stronger, creating new opportunities for both peoples.”

Beyond their bilateral ties, Thailand and Mexico continue to collaborate through multilateral frameworks, including the United Nations, APEC, the FEALAC forum, and the Pacific Alliance. Mexico is also in the process of acceding to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), a key step in further strengthening its engagement with the region and its relationship with Thailand.

The gala dinner featured vibrant cultural performances, combining traditional Mexican music and dance with exquisite Thai cultural showcases. This blend of artistry reflected the spirit of cultural exchange, mutual learning, and friendship, symbolizing a bright shared future for both nations.
