On November 22, 2023 at the Divana Plaza Phuket Patong Beach Hotel, Dr. Yongyos Thammawut, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health, presided over the opening of a meeting to disseminate knowledge on surveillance and prevention of contamination by Norovirus and Legionella spp. in the water supply used in Phuket hotels. Certificates were awarded to hotels that complied to the assessment according to the criteria set by the Department of Medical Sciences. Dr. Banlang Uppapong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Medical Sciences, presented the report, and Mr. Rewat Areerob, Phuket Provincial Administration Organization President, spoke about the role of local authorities in supporting activities to drive the development of Phuket province under the ‘Safety Phuket Island Sandbox’ initiative.
Hotels that have undergone assessments and received certificates of safety from Norovirus and Legionella, along with certification marks from the Department of Medical Sciences, amount to a total of 15. These include Banyan Tree Phuket, Beyond Patong Hotel, Phuket Orchid Resort and Spa, Beyond Resort Karon, Pamookkoo Resort, The Royal Paradise Hotel & Spa, Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket, Sawaddi Patong Resort & Spa by Tolani, Renaissance Phuket Resort and Spa, Katathani Phuket Beach Resort, Rawai Palm Beach Resort, The Nai Harn Phuket, The Front Village Hotel, The Village Resort & Spa, and Holiday Inn Resort Phuket.
