Phuket – May 2, 2025 – Mrs. Sasithorn Suwanmanee, Chief Inspector General of the Ministry of Culture, presided over a press conference announcing the second group of artists selected to participate in the international contemporary art festival, *Thailand Biennale Phuket 2025*. Present at the event were Mr. Sophon Suwannarat, Governor of Phuket Province; Mrs. Kesorn Kamnerdpetch, Deputy Director of the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC) and Acting Director; executives from the Ministry of Culture; Mrs. Anchalee Vanich Theppabutr, President of the Phuket Art Association; Mr. Arin Rungjang, Artistic Director; Thai and international artists; embassy representatives; government and private sector agencies; cultural networks from both central and regional levels; and other stakeholders. The press event was held at Larn Lom, 1st Floor, Central Phuket Festival.

The ‘Thailand Biennale Phuket 2025’ is scheduled to take place from November 2025 to April 2026, under the theme “Nirandkalpa” (The Eternal Moment), which metaphorically represents enduring love that may last only for a fleeting instant and reflects an awareness of impermanence. The theme aligns with the idea of preservation and sustainability of nature, viewed as a symbol of eternity. A variety of art disciplines will be used as tools to explore and communicate the concept of sustainable relationships between humans and nature. The event aims to further develop Phuket into a sustainably creative city of art. The exhibition and activities will be held across three main zones, covering all three districts of Phuket Province.

Throughout the five-month period of the Biennale, the event’s pavilions will serve as venues for exhibitions by artist groups and art organizations from both Thailand and abroad. A total of 13 pavilions will be featured—7 selected through an open call from both domestic and international applicants, and 6 proposed by Phuket Province and other regions. The OCAC opened the call for proposals on April 4, 2025 (details available on the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture’s Facebook page).

In the next phase, the Ministry of Culture, through the OCAC, will select an additional 9 artists, including 4 artists from Thailand, Asia, and other international countries, and 5 artists from Southern Thailand. This is intended to provide opportunities for Southern Thai artists to engage, exchange knowledge, and develop skills through collaboration with international artists.

The ‘Thailand Biennale, Phuket 2025’ is a key initiative to foster international cooperation in contemporary art and drive Phuket to become a sustained hub for contemporary art activities. The event is expected to generate positive impacts on society, the economy, and culture, enhance the image of both Phuket and Thailand, and promote cultural tourism in parallel with eco-tourism, ultimately creating jobs and income for local communities and the province of Phuket.
