Phuket – On 26 May 2026 at 1:30 PM, at Sarasin Muklang Conference Room, 5th Floor, Phuket Provincial Hall, the Phuket Provincial Cultural Office convened a committee meeting to select Phuket’s signature local dishes under the project “The Lost Taste” as part of the Thailand Best Local Food initiative for the fiscal year 2026.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Suwit Panthasngiam, Vice Governor of Phuket, and attended by Ms. Supawadee Paiphak, Senior Cultural Academic Acting Phuket Provincial Cultural Officer, and Mr. Somsak Sophanon, President of the Phuket Provincial Cultural Council, along with committee members. The meeting aimed to consider and select the province’s representative local dish under the “One Province, One Local Dish” campaign, in accordance with the criteria established by the Department of Cultural Promotion, Ministry of Culture.

The project seeks to preserve and revive traditional local dishes that are gradually disappearing from Thai society by elevating them into well-recognized signature dishes of each province. It also aims to conserve and disseminate knowledge and cultural wisdom related to Thai culinary heritage, while promoting the use of local ingredients and community herbs to create added value through the creative economy. In addition, the initiative encourages younger generations to appreciate and consume traditional local foods.

The selection criteria are divided into five categories, namely: identity and local wisdom, risk of disappearance, use of local ingredients and environmental sustainability, nutritional value and herbal properties, and the potential for value-added creative economic development, with a total score of 100 points.

A total of six local dishes were submitted for consideration, including “Phuket Roasted Coconut Salad,” “Bee Thai Bug,” “Phuket Sour Soup,” “Huad Joo Thung,” “Pla Tham Lipon Tai,” and “Gaeng Too Mee.” Each menu reflects the unique identity, way of life, and local culinary wisdom of Phuket people.

Phuket Province will finalize the selection of the most outstanding dish based on the Department of Cultural Promotion’s criteria before submitting the information to the Department for further consideration.
